New year, new me?

How many times have you heard the phrase “new year, new me”?  On December 31st of every year, we are full of hope that the new year will bring us a totally clean slate and 365 days of endless possibilities.  We set goals for weight loss, budgeting, decluttering, education etc.  We buy new planners with bright, colorful, crisp pages and we fill them with stickers, to-do lists and a slew of ideas.  We research the latest fad diets, we take advantage of those special enrollment fees at our local gyms.  We work enthusiastically on all of our new goals, start to see results and as mid year rolls around, we are back to our same old habits, our planner pages are blank, and the gym? what gym?

I am one of THOSE people.  However, as December 31st rolls around, I start to think about the steps I took at the beginning of the year and even try to figure out when it all went awry…and for me, it is always the same thing:  I run out of steam and lose all motivation. Perhaps I take on too many things with the desire of having the perfect home, the perfect body, the perfect life.  There is also the “comparison factor” on social media like Instagram and YouTube where people have the most beautifully decorated/clean homes. So what gives?

My new year’s resolution is not to become a “new me” but to become a better me.  I think my goals can be achieved if I can figure out my why:  Why will I keep striving to be my best and why is it worth it? As women, we don’t give ourselves enough grace and time, hopefully as this year flies by (as the years seem to be doing) I will figure out my why and next December 31st, I can confidently say “Yes I will because I already am”.

Happy new year!
